To pay for these things he earns money giving surfing lessons, $15 for a half hour lesson per person.  He has already saved $320, how many more hours of surfing lessons does he need to give before he can buy the new board, wax and leg rope?

2. Piripi shouted his whole family to Valentines for lunch. It cost him $88.00 for the five adults, plus his little brother who got his meal for half price. How much did he pay for each family member?

3. Roberto and Erin are planning their holiday. They want to go bungy jumping ($181 for both of them), white-water rafting ($124.00 each) and horse riding ($48.00 each). As they only have $250.00 between them, they decide to not do the most expensive activity. How much more do they need to save?

4. Po talks his mum into making her famous doughnuts for the school gala again. He needs to know how much it will cost to run the stall. His mum remembers last year when the site cost $30, $25 for flour, $18.60 for eggs, and $15.20 for oil. Last year they sold just under 100 doughnuts. How much will it cost this year if they plan to make and sell 250?

5. Maxine and Falaata’s band play at a Christmas concert. They get paid $150 plus $48 petrol money. However, they break a guitar string ($11.80) a drum skin ($34.70) and a windscreen driving home ($106.40). After paying for the string, skin and windscreen, did they make a profit or a loss from playing at the concert? How much?

1. On the way to school, Mystik falls off his bike. It costs $37.70 for a new helmet, $45.50 for a new pair of jeans, and he needs two new tires. The accident costs his parents $200.00. What was the cost of each new tire?

2. Delaney’s dad is a chef at The Mouse Trap restaurant. He is trying to work out which of the meals on his menu makes the most money. The “ratty-rump steak” sells for $24.80 and costs $12.90 to make. The ‘Whitebait-whisker-fritters” meal sells for $25.50 and costs $17.20 to make. The “Cheesey-paws fondue” sells at $16.40 and costs $10.80 and the “Mouse Hole Banquet is $40.20 for 2 people and costs $15.70 per person to prepare. Which meal makes the most profit, and how much more profit is this compared to the meal making the least profit?

3. Daniel earns 15% more in July than in January this year and David earns 20% less in July than in January this year. Together they earnt $9,000 in July, how much did they together in January?

4. Someone at the amusement park is stealing money. When the owner opens the safe he knows money is missing, but had not counted the ticket money that week. Tiny, the ticket collector, knows he sold 345 adult tickets and 531 child tickets last night. He also knows that the night before he sold 452 adult tickets and 190 child tickets. Yesterday he took money out of the safe to buy supplies. He knows the supplies cost $770 but the shop keeper reduced the price by the cost of two adult tickets. How much should be in the safe? (Tickets cost $20 for adults and $15 for a child.)

5. David is paying off a $260 guitar. He paid a deposit of $25.50, then made three payments, one each month, to finish paying it off. His third payment was twice as much as his second payment which was twice as much as his first payment. How much did he pay each payment?
